Francesca Thorscott
Author of Buttons, Doodahs & Wotnots

Francesca began writing from a very young age and developed her love of poetry through reading rhyming stories and being read to by her family. The poems in her book “Buttons, Doodahs and Wotnots” begin with ones written at just 8 years of age through to being 12 years old. Her aptitude for seeing things differently from her peers has always been apparent and she is not afraid to stand up and be individual.
Her poetry talent was first noticed when she began writing frequently at that earlier stage when she would have a picture to use as a reference point or be verbally given a subject to write about. Her words flowed from the pen and she found it effortless to write her poems, whether they were short or long. Her Scoundrel’s Theft poem received encouraging and positive comments from David Walliams with special consideration to the language used. Her passionate writing about the planet gained a beautiful and personal reply from Sir David Attenborough.
Her love of writing poetry continues and Francesca draws her inspiration from the world around her. Not only as it is, but her own perception of what she sees, hears and reads about. At home, Francesca has been encouraged to embrace her individuality and her flamboyance yet she also remains humbled by the praise she receives and she continues to be grounded in her life.
Not only does Francesca have a natural aptitude for writing poetry, she is an adept story teller. Her drafted mini novels have attracted quite an interest and she is due to publish these in the future. Currently however, Francesca is focussing on her poetry and a second book will be released later this year. Many adults in the world of teaching and writing have given positive reviews of Francesca’s work and her approach to life and her writing passion. Francesca thrives on her writing and the outlet of expression it gives her and she hopes to inspire other young people to pick up a pen and write how they feel or to convey how they see the world around them.
